Be Still and Know

To be still means to keep your heart calm and in a place of peace by disciplining your thoughts. Emotions are born from our thought life, and have no independant ability to judge what is true and what is not.

So it is vital to do what the bible says and pull down mental strongholds that exalt themselves against the truth of Gods’ word.

Stop fearing and worrying, and stop to reboot and reframe our lives. The Covid crisis has forced the whole world into a place of re evaluation. This is an opportunity, to pause, still our hearts and allow God to speak to us.

This psalm starts out saying that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. It goes on to say “therefore we will not fear, THOUGH THE EARTH SHOULD CHANGE AND THE MOUNTAINS BE SHAKEN INTO THE MIDST OF THE SEA” Our therefore comes from the previous statement, it is conditional upon us recognising the statment of verse one.

What a picture of our current world, dramatically changed and having the mountains of society thrown into the sea, out of reach for now.

The seven mountains of society are spoken of in some current books and teachings. They are;

Education,Religion,Family, business, Government/miliary/, arts/media

Lance Walnau and others have bought this teaching out in recent years. It says that we all have influence in a particular mountain, and while we minister in that mountain of influence we will have maximum influence.

I agree with this in general although I am wary of being too rigid about it, especially as God has recently been showing me about mantles being doubled and tripled as he expands our ministry gifings.

But the current virus crisis has forced all of these mountains to change and adapt or fall down.

So this psalm, which was one to be sung by the sons of Korah, THE PROPHETS OF THE DAY,  delivered guidelines for such a crisis.

let the prophets sing and declare this psalm. Let all of Gods’ people do so.Seas are roaring and mountasins are trembling-the Psalm says Selah-pause and calmy think-not in fear or agitation, but meditate upon what God is doing in the world and prayerfully consider your current role, and declare that you will walk in Gods’ current and perfect will.

He word Selah is probably a musical direction for the musicians to pause so that people can consider the words and apply them to their own lives.

Verses 8-11 of this Psalm goes on to declare, that God has wrought desolations and wonders, pause and think of that. God is in ulimate Sovereign control of the world, even though for a time, satanrules in many ways because mankind has allowed him to.

Whether God deliberatley created such a crisis or not is a deep question, but he certainly has not intervened, because he gave the wonderful gift of free will to all people. So it creates a space for those who don’t know him to consider their souls’ destination, and for those who do know him to consider, their journey and decisions. He has got the worlds’ attention, so let us all still our hearts before him and let his peace rule and reign.

Phillipians 4

(I)Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with (J)thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and (K)the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things

Finally, brethren, whatever things are (L)true, whatever things are (M)noble, whatever things are (N)just, (O)whatever things are pure, whatever things are (P)lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and (Q)the God of peace will be with you.

The peace of God only guards our heart when we think of those things this scripture mentions.

His supernatural peace which bypasses our natural understanding will come as we do this.

He will make wars and troubles cease in his time and way.

Finally vs 10&11 give us the key to walking through these times when mountains are crashing

Let be and be still, and know, [recognise and understand]. that I AM GOD, I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted among the NATIONS [MOUNTAINS], I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob [Abraham and Isaac and all the previous and currentservants of God],

He is our high tower and stronghold, SELAH-PAUSE AND CALMLY THINK OF THAT.
